Privacy Policy
Last updated 13 July 2026
Snappy Technologies Inc. ("Snappy", "we", "us") operates a money transfer service that lets people send funds between Canada and Nigeria. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we protect it, and the rights you have over it. It applies to our website, mobile app, and related services.
1. Information we collect
To open an account and send money, we collect identity information such as your full name, date of birth, address, phone number, email, and a government-issued ID. As a registered Money Services Business, we are required by law to verify your identity before you can transact, and we may re-verify it periodically.
We also collect transaction information, including sender and recipient details, amounts, currencies, payout methods, and bank or mobile-money account details on both the Canadian and Nigerian side of a transfer. Device, log, and location data are collected automatically to secure your account and detect fraud.
2. Why we process your data
We use your information to verify your identity, process and settle transfers, screen transactions against sanctions and watch lists, detect and prevent fraud, and provide customer support. We are also required to retain and, where applicable, report certain records to the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) under the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act, and to comparable authorities in Nigeria where our payout partners operate.
Where we rely on your consent for a particular use, you may withdraw it at any time, though this may mean we can no longer provide the service to you.
3. How we protect your data
We encrypt data in transit and at rest, restrict internal access on a need-to-know basis, and support biometric and multi-factor login. Identity documents are stored with our verification providers under contractual confidentiality and security obligations.
4. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only where necessary to deliver a transfer or to meet our legal obligations: with identity-verification vendors, our banking and payout partners in Canada and Nigeria (including mobile-money operators and receiving banks), payment processors, and regulators such as FINTRAC. Nigerian payout partners are subject to Central Bank of Nigeria oversight and may have their own data handling requirements for completing your transfer.
5. International transfers of data
Because Snappy moves money between Canada and Nigeria, your information will necessarily be transferred to, and processed in, Nigeria and other jurisdictions where our partners operate. We take contractual and technical steps to require a comparable standard of protection wherever your data is processed.
6. How long we keep your data
Canadian anti-money laundering rules require us to retain identity and transaction records for at least five years after an account is closed or a transaction is completed. We may retain data longer where needed to resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, or meet other legal obligations.
7. Your rights
Subject to Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), you can ask us for access to the personal information we hold about you, request that inaccurate information be corrected, and ask us to delete information we are not legally required to retain. To exercise these rights, contact us using the details below; we aim to respond within 30 days.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our service or legal obligations evolve. Material changes will be communicated by email or through the app before they take effect.
